Understanding nursing values is important in improving the long-term health care quality in the society. Over the years, the roles and values of nurse practitioners have improved significantly due to the advancement in the healthcare programs. For example, the changes of the regulatory standards in hospitals are critical. In addition, the management of health care costs and expanding revenue maximization is critical in shaping the long-term success of the health care facilities. Having proper health care action plans and measures will shape the long-term success in the nursing career. As a result, the adoption of the nursing values and management of health care costs and maximizing revenues is relevant.
Roles and Progression of Nursing Values
As a nurse manager working in an emergency department, for the patients with concerns about billing, I would advise the billing of the medical care services is done immediately after the care services are offered using their insurance coverage. The patients must have insurance coverage that covers the care service offered (Joel, 2017). Potential co-payments could be made with the insurance firms depending on the nature of their insurance coverage.
Moreover, I would advise them to consult the hospital social works about their medical billing. The social workers are well equipped with information about the billing of the patients. They will be able to discuss what the medical payment covers and explains the various options available to the social workers. Most importantly, I will connect them with the relevant social workers and billing professionals with the appropriate information about the medical billing of the patients (O’Neal, Zomorodi, & Wagner, 2015). Therefore, I would advise the patients to ask questions to the medical billing department and consult the social workers for more information.
Some of the resources I give to the patient seeking information related health care costs and their insurance coverage is to direct them to an expert with the expertise on medical billing and insurance such as the resident social worker in the hospital. I would also give them patient medical billing handouts, health insurance firms’ brochures, links to medical insurance assistant sites, and health care’s billing information on the website. Such resources will help to inform the patients about the process of medical billing and how insurance is important for the payment of the healthcare services.

During the last 5-10 years, there have been significant changes in hospital health care. One of the key changes is the significant innovations in the healthcare. The advanced medical innovations have been critical in improving the health care delivery to the patients as well as improving the skill-sets of the medical professionals in terms of administering of proper treatment (Goode, et al., 2016). The integration of innovation into healthcare has helped to facilitate the creation of new insights and getting new evidence about health care strategies and innovation to scale quality health care delivery.

Medical innovations have made it easy to perform medical diagnosis and assessment of the patient’s medical situation. With the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, it changed the financial model of health care (Peltzer, Teel, Cline, & Cromwell, 2016). The ACA helped to make Americans get health insurance requiring the hospitals to expand their capacity to deal with the higher volumes of patients. For example, the creation of a comprehensive outpatient with longer hours was critical in meeting the healthcare needs of the communities.
Apart from the changes in the financial model, the hospital systems have also become complex with time. Hospitals have become more specialized and form part of the larger healthcare system including nonprofit, or government-sponsored healthcare facilities. Compliance and consolidation are two key phrases used in the current health care to resolve the complexity of the hospital systems. Boosting compliance is a relevant aspect of promoting the quality of health care in many hospitals.
The hospitals are expected to deal with the regulatory changes over time that needs for quality measures to be implemented in the healthcare organizations. Consolidation of resources has been discussed a way of standardizing the complex hospital system. Another major change in the healthcare sector is the increased competition among the emergency care centers. Hospitals are continually developing good relations with the emergency centers to market their services and grow their revenues (Goode, et al., 2016). This highlights some of the key changes that have occurred in the healthcare sector in the last 5 to 10 years.

As a nurse working as an agent for the patient, I believe that my values have been strongly developed over time. Health and social care changes have been made possible due to the new policies and government regulations that demand that patients should be treated with compassion and dignity at all times. The development and training of the 6Cs of nursing have helped to improve my professional commitment and focus on the delivery of excellent patient care (Sullivan, 2013). The 6Cs that have influenced values includes care, compassion, competence, communication, courage, and commitment. For instance, I have learned the value of always being consistent and committed to improving the care and experiences of the patients. It usually involves taking proper health care measures to meet the needs of the patients.
I have also been able to gain immense courage that helps to do the right things for the patients and informing them about potential concerns as well as creating new ways of innovating healthcare solutions in the hospitals. In addition, I was able to learn the significance of communication in process of enhancing care relationships. Listening to the patients is important and helps to frame the appropriate responses (O’Neal et al., 2015). My competence and compassion have also been enhanced with time making it possible for me to work well as an agent of the patients in the hospitals.

Health Care Cost Control and Revenue Maximization
As a team of 8 nurse managers, the project of reducing costs and increasing revenue in the healthcare facility will start by getting adequate financial resources such as the past healthcare facility’s financial reports to determine the costs and revenues level of the health facility. After obtaining the financial reports and statements, the team will need to hire a financial expert to offer advice on the right measures to be implemented in reducing the costs and improving revenues in the organization (Joel, 2017). The people to be involved in the project include the patients, the team, internal accountant, external financial accountants, and a social worker. These people will help to determine the actions that can be implemented to improve the financial performance of the healthcare organization.

Before making any recommendations, the information that will need to be available includes the past trends of costs of operation and the past trend of revenues. The main cost element should also be identified as they will need to be targeted to help in the reduction of the healthcare facility’s costs of operation. The main sources of revenues will also be identified and evaluated to determine whether it be maximized to expand the revenue growth of the company. The information will be effective and useful before the recommending measures to be implemented in the project.
Group decision-making could be involved in fiscal decisions such as the reduction of the costs and maximizing the revenues for the healthcare facility. Through consultations, the group decision-making process will help in coming up with the most effective fiscal decisions to implement in the healthcare organization. The consultants usually involve taking ideas from the group members to be considered while making the ultimate fiscal decisions. However, it is important to avoid potential conflicts within the group making the decision. When the group decision making does not involve consensus, it is necessary to perform a relevant assessment of the potential fiscal decisions.

The fiscal decisions cannot be made without value judgments. The team should perform a cost-benefit analysis to determine how to improve cost reduction and maximization of revenues within the healthcare facility. The group involved in the decision-making process must perform proper value judgments (Sullivan, 2013). As a result, the reliance on the value judgments to make effective fiscal decisions is critical.

10-year Career Plan
My short term goal in the next 12 months will include seeking to complete my BSN degree, become state certified RN, and get a job in emergency center at a healthcare facility. In three years, I expect to have gained some significant level of core competencies includes research, coaching, clinical experience, consultation, ethics, and leadership. Within three years, I will seek to enter into a marriage that would often limit my productivity as a nursing practitioner to perform my responsibilities.

In the next 5 years, I will continue to gain more experience working as a professional nurse. Gaining experience includes improving my communication abilities and competency levels in the nursing discipline. I will also endeavor to get the CCRN specialty certification. The certification will improve my competency as a professional nurse. Other goals to push on in the next five years includes making efforts to achieve a minimum GRE score of 16 0 verbal, 150 quantitative, & 4.0 essay. I will also be my MSN C.N.S graduate course in a reputable nursing college.

For the next 10 year goals, I will seek to graduate with MSN C.N.S specialty degree and gaining one year experience in nursing working as an acute C.N.S specialist. To achieve these goals for the next 10 years, I will be constrained by taking care of children who demand much time rather than committing too much time to my professional career. I will also need to overcome the dependency of my aging parents. Other key 10 year goals include participating in at least two CMMB mission trips and developing proper protocols for the CMMB clinics.

In summary, the healthcare systems have been improved significantly with time including the emergence of medical innovations. A significant change in the health care systems includes the increased competition among the emergency care centers. The group decision-making process will help in coming up with the most effective fiscal decisions to implement in the healthcare organization. As part of my career plan, I will be able to expand my core competencies includes research, coaching, clinical experience, consultation, ethics, and leadership among others.
